Deep Integration of Scientific and Industrial Innovation to Elevate the Beef-Cattle Industry

A Report on the 8th National Beef Cattle Industry Technology Seminar & Beef Industry Expo

To thoroughly implement the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress, accelerate the building of a strong agricultural nation, advance rural revitalization in an all-round way, and promote the healthy and sustainable development of China’s beef-cattle industry, the 8th National Beef Cattle Industry Technology Seminar, organized by the College of Animal Science and Technology of China Agricultural University and the China Beef Industry Collaborative Innovation Platform, successfully concluded in Changchun, Jilin, on July 24–27, 2025, following the experience and accumulation of seven previous editions.

Continuing the mission of “building consensus, collaborative innovation, serving industry, and leading development,” this year’s seminar incorporated new intelligent elements aligned with the needs of the beef-cattle sector, providing a solid exchange platform to support the industry’s continuous progress.

Focus on the Frontier: Themes that Guide the Industry

With the theme “Intelligent Chain Integration, Pivoting to Transformation,” the 8th seminar marked an upgrade from a purely academic exchange platform to an international event integrating industry, academia, and research. It extended beyond technical discussions to coordinated development across the entire value chain, expanded from a domestic base to a global perspective, and emphasized win-win cooperation. Centering on cutting-edge topics, leading experts from China, the United Kingdom, France, South Korea, and the United States—together with policymakers, think-tank scholars, research pioneers, and business leaders—gathered to explore technological breakthroughs and future pathways for the beef-cattle industry. Spanning the whole-chain ecosystem, the event showcased the industry’s future landscape from foundational breeding to smart feeding, and from health management to precision nutrition in a one-stop format.

Nearly 1,000 participants registered online and offline. Among them were 17 keynote speakers and 36 invited experts; 171 organizations took part, with 36 exhibitors and 13 competent authorities in attendance. Online viewership approached 100,000. The conference brought together elites from across the sector to analyze opportunities and challenges facing the industry under new circumstances, to explore effective paths for industrial upgrading, further strengthen upstream–downstream linkage and collaboration, and enhance the international competitiveness of China’s beef-cattle industry.

China Agricultural University Professor Meng Qingxiang, who also serves as Chairman of the China Beef Industry Collaborative Innovation Platform, noted that as a key pillar industry for ensuring national food security and meeting people’s growing needs for a better life, China’s beef-cattle sector is undergoing a profound transformation—from traditional and extensive to modernized, intensive, and high-quality development. Continuous breakthroughs are needed in breed improvement, healthy rearing, precision nutrition, intelligent equipment, quality enhancement, brand building, and sustainable development. Countries such as the United Kingdom and France are global leaders in modern animal husbandry, with rich experience, advanced technologies, and mature market operation models in breeding, feeding management, quality assurance, and industry-system construction. China and these livestock-advanced nations are highly complementary in the beef-cattle field, with vast cooperation potential. Positive progress has been achieved in scientific exchange, talent training, technology demonstration, and platform building. Industrial advancement requires an open mindset; the platform will, as always, engage in broad exploration so that China may collide and integrate with advanced domestic and international experience and technologies, sparking more cooperation and fueling the vigorous development of the beef-cattle industry.
